Starbucks Serving Up A Lot More Than Lattes

DALLAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you go to Starbucks for the Venti Caramel Latte and wireless internet access, here’s something that’ll ruin your caffeine buzz – you’re making life easy for cyber thieves.

That’s the word from Christopher Faulkner, CEO of the web-hosting company CI Host. He says, “Wireless no doubt is the wave of the future, but we have a lot to worry about.”

Faulkner thinks people should be wary of “that guy sitting next to you at Starbucks that looks to be working on a paper,” because he could be sending out an “Evil Twin” wireless signal that causes your computer to pick up a web page that looks exactly like the page you typically log onto with your user name and password.

He says something like a T-Mobile web page is “very easy to duplicate” and because of that, cyber thieves everywhere are intercepting information from wireless internet users.

To combat identity theft, he says Starbucks, airports and now McDonald’s truly need wireless monitoring and jokes he’d be willing to lead the Wireless Hotspot Police, “with a laptop strapped to my chest.”
