Thats because when Young isnt performing, he spends his days harvesting coffee beans from his ranch in Kona on the island of Hawaii.
Young isnt a farmer by nature. Hes a self- proclaimed city kid who only started farming when he moved to Hawaii a few years ago.
As he puts it, We didnt know very many people so it brought us closer to the land.
Now, he spends as much time picking beans as he does picking guitar strings and sells the organically grown java to fans on his website, www.jessecolinyoung.com for $25 a pound.
He even has devised his own coffee beverage a mix of strong black joe with tequila that he claims can cure any bout of stage fright he might feel before a show.
But while farming coffee gives Young a buzz, hes not giving up his day job. In fact, hes just released a two CD set, The Very Best Of Jesse Colin Young, that he feels encapsulates some of the best 40 years of my life.
