Katrina And Rita Breaking Up Marriages

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have wreaked havoc on the Gulf States, but their biggest impact may be on troubled marriages.

That’s according to counselor Dr. Nancy Wasson, who says the stress caused by the natural disasters could push unhappily married couples in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi straight to divorce court.

That’s because, Wasson says, these couples are already so wigged-out that when another traumatic event happens, it just pushes them over the edge.

Her advice to these couples is to “wait at least a year, preferably two” before making that life-changing decision.

She figures this will allow them to get their heads straight and give them time to “regroup and work on their marriage.”

And she hopes her advice will head off the divorce spike that was seen after the 9/11 attacks.

Wasson says, “Things are seldom as bleak as they appear at the that time and it’s a mistake to just throw a marriage away.”
