Classical Gas Sparks New Round Of Airtime

EUGENE, Ore. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A new recording of the instrumental song “Classical Gas” is about to light a fire on the airwaves again.

The 1968 hit has been broadcast more than 5 million times, making it the most broadcast instrumental hit of all times, and composer Mason Williams hopes it will be played another 5 million times.

That’s because a new version of Williams’ hit has been re-recorded by 19-year-old British guitarist Zoe McCulloch for a new CD titled Electrical Gas, which has just been released.

The CD features the same song, played to an electric guitar, as well as other Williams classics.

Williams says the new take on the old tune has “jump started me because if you’re not in Hollywood you fade away.”

As for McCulloch, the two met a few years ago at a guitar festival in Eugene, Oregon, where she asked if she could play some of his songs.

In Williams’ words, “She’s a delicate 100-pound little girl with an electric guitar that knocks your socks off.”
