Documentary On New Orleans Music Singing The Blues As It Premieres

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A documentary on the music of New Orleans which premieres in Los Angeles tonight (Sep. 9) is striking a sad note in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

The footage for Make It Funky! was filmed in April of 2004 under happier circumstances, and will be shown at Mann’s Chinese Theater.

Some of the New Orleans legends featured in the film include: Fats Domino, Snooks Eaglin, Bonnie Raitt and the Neville brothers.

Film producer Michael Murphy – who is a native of New Orleans – says he originally saw the film as a celebration of music that would inspire people to visit New Orleans and discover the sounds for themselves.

Now Murphy says he has another agenda: To use the film to support “why that city needs to be saved.”

Murphy says he is happy that his film preserves the music that might be lost, but on a positive note, he’s “totally convinced the city will rise up again.”
