French Duo Puts Bossa Nova Beat To Punk Tunes

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A French music group is making a name for itself by bringing the bossa nova beat to punk tunes.

The band, Nouvelle Vague, puts new wave and punk songs to a Brazilian beat laced with languid female vocals. Some of the punk songs turned pop tunes include, “I Melt With You,” “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and a romantic wistful rendition of the Dead Kennedys classic, “Too Drunk To F.”

Nouvelle Vague member Marc Collins says transforming aggressive music into jazzy cocktail music isn’t a retro- ironic joke. He and partner Olivier Libaux want to show beautiful songs can be created from two or three chords.

The group starts a U.S. tour on Sept. 10 to promote its self- titled debut album. However, Collins and Libaux have already finished their next CD and says it has a similar concept except “with excursions to Jamaica, Cuba and Trinidad.”
