Thats the distasteful news that Mark DeCarlo has learned while filming Taste Of America, a Travel Channel series which explores various regions and their cuisines.
Some of it can be distasteful, such as the day DeCarlo spent in the Ohio River Valley sampling something called goetta.
For those not in the know, thats a local dish that combines oatmeal and meat. DeCarlo admits hes no foodie but feels confident in admitting the dish is kind of gross.
Other regions with recipes DeCarlo has sampled include Arizona, where he practiced cooking cactus and South Carolina, where he learned the ins and outs of chitterlings, a popular side dish made from pig intestines.
Its not all stomach-churning though. For every day he spent chowing down on beef-flavored oatmeal, DeCarlo enjoyed 24 hours in a food paradise like New Orleans.
Taste Of America airs Tuesdays on Travel Channel.
