Over-The-Top Behavior Good For Soap Characters, Not Soap Actors

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you want to be a successful soap opera actor, don’t act like a soap opera character.

That’s the advice of veteran soap star Cameron Mathison, who plays Ryan Lavery on All My Children, and hosts the upcoming SOAPnet reality series, I Wanna Be A Soap Star.

His character has been engaged five times, married three times and had his first wife shot in the head and her heart cut out for a donor – but that kind of behavior won’t help an aspiring daytime drama star.

As Mathison puts it, “If my personality was as out there as my character’s, they would have fired me long ago.”

Hopefully, he won’t have to deal with daytime divas among the 12 finalists on I Wanna Be A Soap Star, which premieres June 23.

And the chances are good Mathison won’t because, he says, “the soap opera super fans and the super conniving types didn’t make it through the casting process.”
