According to Alex Kerin, a consultant for companies that employ workers around the clock, research shows a person who has not slept for 22 hours is just as physically impaired as someone who is legally drunk.
He says the Memorial Day holiday could be a dangerous period because of the potential for sleep-deprived drivers, as Americans drive long distances to see family and spend many hours at BBQs and other celebrations.
His company, Circadian, helps companies prevent their shift workers from driving when theyre too sleepy with tips that can work for Memorial Day travelers too, such as pulling over and resting for 15 minutes if youre too tired to drive.
