New Home Show Helps Owners Finish What They Started

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Not all home makeover shows are the same. That’s the case Trading Places designer Vern Yip is building for his upcoming NBC special, Home Intervention.

Unlike the ABC hit series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Yip doesn’t make over houses, he helps people who started building their dream home finish the job.

In his words, “These people started reaching for the stars, figuring they could do it on their own and ended up biting off more than they could chew.”

The family featured in the special – the Rutledges of Tallapoosa, Georgia – started building their dream home 10 years ago and it still has plenty of gaping holes and no functioning kitchen or doors on the bathroom.

Yip says the father, Randy Rutledge, told him the lack of progress on the home made him “not feel like a man anymore” so he was happy to get the job finished.

Home Intervention airs Sunday (Apr. 17) and while Yip promises as much emotion as on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, he admits he doesn’t take off his shirt nearly as much as that show’s host, Ty Pennington.
