Travel Expo Goes Straight For The Gay Dollar

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Tourism professionals will be going straight for the gay dollar in West Hollywood tomorrow (Mar. 24).

The 13th Annual Gay and Lesbian Travel Expo is taking place and travel experts from cities all over the world will be doing their best to entice travelers from the lucrative gay market.

Organizer Jerry McHugh says many tourism bureaus are gung ho about gay travelers because, “there’s the perception that they spend more; are more courteous; and employees at hotels and resorts report having more fun with gay vacationers than straights.”

This year, cities that are making a push to become gay tourist meccas include Montreal and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Tomorrow’s Expo is geared towards gay travel but McHugh says the places gays travel often become vacation havens for straight people later.

As he puts it, “Part of the reason South Beach in Miami has made a resurgence is because it became a popular gay destination.”
