Tennis Players Get To ‘Wine’ On Tuesday (Mar. 8)

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some of the top tennis players are going to prove they know how to “wine” on Tuesday (Mar. 8).

The United States Tennis Association is holding a charity wine tasting at the New York office of Sotheby’s Auction House that will feature wines that supposedly fit the characteristics and personalities of various tennis stars.

For instance, organizers are honoring Andre Agassi’s versatility by serving up a White Burgundy; while Andy Roddick’s powerful unpredictability matches up with a Red Burgundy.

Other tennis players and the wines they match up to include Serena Williams, whose “aggressive style” is supposedly similar to a Red Rhone - Cote Rotie, while sister Venus is more graceful and powerful, like an Italian Super Tuscan.

  • John McEnroe’s confrontational nature is just like an Australian Shiraz.

  • Pete Sampras’ consistent, yet explosive, play reminds wine experts of a California Cabernet.

  • Finally, Maria Sharapova isn’t old enough to drink but wine-drinking tennis fans figure her bubbly personality reminds them of champagne.
