‘Alias’ Cast Member: From Spy To Surgeon

BERKELEY, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actor Carl Lumbly plays a spy on the hit show Alias, but he admits his job makes him feel more like a surgeon.

You see, Lumbly – who plays Sydney Bristow’s field partner, Marcus Dixon – divides his time between his home in Berkeley, Calif., and the program’s set in Los Angeles, which means he’s on call for the show all the time.

In his words, “I feel more like a surgeon than an actor: I’m on call and when my phone rings, I have to be ready to go.”

On average, Lumbly spends four days a week on set, but that increases whenever he has to shoot scenes as a spy “in the field” – which involves more locations, costuming and makeup.

His character was office-bound last season, which made for more time at home, but more grief from fans, who Lumbly says were upset he wasn’t out there spying with series star Jennifer Garner.

But this season promises more field time for Dixon, and Lumbly says he’s looking forward to the donning the disguises and accents required for his spy aliases.
