Or so it seems, according to a study by the popular coupon code website CouponCodes4U.com.
The study found a major increase in the amount of online purchases and discount searches made during the telecast of the iconic singing show, and founder Mark Pearson set off to investigate why.
He surveyed more than 7,000 Americans and found that 73 percent have lost that lovin feeling for Idol, saying its become predictable and too commercial.
Many viewers admitted to jumping ship and switching to other shows, despite the addition of Ellen DeGeneres to the judges panel.
Pearson says, American Idol has become this huge monster of a commercial hit, and as the saying goes, what goes up must, at some stage, come down.
The fact that this is Simon Cowells final season on Idol may be another reason for the decline in viewership.
