Cost Of St. Patrick's Day: $33.05

Tuesday, March 9, 2010 16:04 GMT

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – St. Patrick’s Day (Mar. 17) won’t cost you an entire pot o’ gold, but it will set you back $33.05.

According to the NRF’s 2010 St. Patrick’s Day survey, the average reveler will spend $33.05 on decorations, party favors, and green attire to celebrate the Irish holiday.

All together, spending is expected to reach $3.44 billion.

Here’s the greenback breakdown: 29.6 percent will attend a party at a bar or restaurant, 33.3 percent will cook a traditional St. Patrick’s Day meal with all the fixings at home, and 18.9 percent will head to a private party.

About 23.3 percent of folks plan to decorate their home or office, while 80.8 percent will sport their brightest green tie or sweater to avoid a St. Paddy’s pinch.

Young adults – Irish or not – are the most gung-ho about the festive holiday, with the average 18-24 expected to spend $40.18, up about $4 from last year.
