Grandma Proves She's Not Dead

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 17:15 GMT

AUSTIN, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One grandma is out to prove that elders can still be athletes.

Jody Kelly, a 71-year-old personal trainer, and her granddaughter Shannon Foster were eliminated from The Amazing Race this past Sunday (Feb. 21).

Kelly is the oldest contestant ever to attempt the Race, which she did in order to prove that even at 70 plus, “You’re not dead yet.”

Foster says the TV trek was all “Grandma’s crazy idea,” and was surprised at how well Granny handled the long hours of traveling and little sleep.

For inspiration, Kelly – who regularly runs marathons – kept thinking about her 100-year-old client at the gym who can still do squats.

Now that the duo know they travel well together, they’re planning more adventures.

This includes biking in Alaska, hiking the Appalachians, and possibly bungee jumping or sky diving.

Kelly also wants to create a TV show about elderly athletes.

The Amazing Race airs Sundays on CBS.
