La Carmina is a Japanese designer whos penned Cute Yummy Time (Penguin), a cookbook that turns mundane food into cute creations, out tomorrow (Oct. 6).
Her concoctions, like bread rolls in the shape of a piggy and hard-boiled eggs with friendly faces, are inspired by Japans latest wacky trend of dolling up school lunches.
According to La Carmina, Japanese mothers put lots of effort into making their kids lunches cute so they actually eat them.
In fact, Japanese kids often compete with one another in the cafeteria to see who has the cutest lunch of all.
La Carmina hopes Western moms take notice and start including cutesy creatures in their kids meals.
Artsy edibles are a creative way to get kids to eat healthier and though it sounds twisted, Carmina admits biting into a cute little bunny or pig made of food is fun.
