Lou Bardach, CEO of tattoofinder.com, an online tattoo gallery, says detailed, custom ink is currently all the rage.
Simple tribal tats have been replaced with artistic renderings of things that are personally meaningful to an individual.
Bardach says pop culture heavily influences todays tattoos, and many opt for ink having to do with whatever is in the news, like the word Change, President Barack Obama, or a dedication to Michael Jackson.
While people are getting riskier with tattoo placement choosing anywhere from their eyelids to fingers as a canvas for body art Bardach notes that the ankle, back, and tramp stamp areas are still popular.
Thanks to tools like tattoofinder.com, Bardach says folks can carefully research what they want prior to visiting a tattoo artist, making the process much smoother.
His site sells printable stencils of original tattoos, including a bizarre rendering of a nun with a vibrator.
