Lovato – best known for Camp Rock – stars in the Disney Channel movie Princess Protection Program, premiering tonight (Jun. 26), in which she plays a princess trying to blend in as a normal teen.
To nail the royal role, Lovato had to speak eloquently in full, proper sentences – a speech pattern that’s stuck with her.
The script called for her repeatedly starting sentences with “What is this...” and the uppity opener has become a running gag with her friends who constantly tease her, “Demi, what is this dress? What is this water bottle?”
Co-star and best bud Selena Gomez is among those who give her a hard time for her princess slang, but Lovato assures she’s trying to break out of the “annoying” habit.
Another accessory that came with the princess gig was a big, poofy dress that Lovato admits got to be a bit “obnoxious” by the end of the shoot.
