Pope Benedict Pooh-Poohs Prophylactics

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Pope Benedict XVI’s recent rant against condoms has one advocate rolling in anger.

During his first papal visit to Africa, the Pope was quoted as saying, “You can’t resolve [AIDS] with the distribution of condoms. On the contrary, it increases the problem.”

That statement has Fred Wyand, spokesperson for the American Social Health Association which promotes National Condom Month, up in arms.

He says, “It’s true that condoms alone aren’t the solution to the HIV epidemic anywhere, but they are a PROVEN, effective means of reducing transmission of the virus and should never be disparaged. Doesn’t the Pope have better things to talk about?”

Wyand assures that condom distribution in no way worsens the spread of AIDS or HIV, unlike Pope Benedict claims, and says His Holiness’ stupid remark is “not helpful” to HIV/AIDS awareness.

Luckily, Wyand is positive that no one will actually pay any mind to the Pope’s rubber rant, so the effect will be minimal at best.
