The Birds Are Back In Town

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Riding an ostrich is a bird-brained idea that’s better left to the professionals.

The 21st Annual Ostrich Festival in Chandler, Arizona, takes place this weekend (Mar. 13-15), and will feature live ostrich races where 12 birds are ridden by professional ostrich jockeys down a track.

Since ostriches are typically ornery, festival spokesperson Katie Stringham says the races are extremely unpredictable.

Almost every year, a jockey is bucked off one of the birds and thrown across the track – but it’s not the ostrich’s fault.

Stringham explains, “Their brain is the size of a pea. They don’t meant so be so rough and dangerous, but they are!”

She says spectators are better off watching the races from afar since ostriches are “so strong, they can kill a lion with one kick.”

If the races aren’t your speed, attendees can get their ostrich fix by chowing down on goodies like ostrich burgers, ostrich jerkey, and emu eggs.
