Heartbreak Makes Men Good Writers

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Rejection does a man good.

Women are good at breaking a man’s heart, and the book Things I’ve Learned From The Women Who’ve Dumped Me (Grand Central), a collection of essays by comedy writers like Stephen Colbert, Will Forte, and David Wain, proves it.

Each writer shares their experience with heartache, but despite the hurt they once felt, editor/contributor Ben Karlin says it’s been character building for these comedy luminaries.

He explains, “Rejection is the greatest fuel source. It’s the nuclear power of comedy writing. If you didn’t have any interesting experiences in life, you’re not gonna be an interesting person.”

Though getting over their lost loves wasn’t easy, Karlin says these men have come to appreciate the ones who hurt them.

He says, “These were written years after the event. If they’d been asked to write about it 10 minutes after it happened, all the stories would be one word, and that word would be ‘b■tch.’”
