‘Idol’ Wannabes Savvier Than Ever

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – American Idol auditions are no longer uncharted territory, and wannabe singers are savvier than ever.

Idol executive producer Ken Warwick says people who audition for the show have studied the last seven seasons and know exactly what to do and say to get on camera.

This includes people dressing up in gimmicky costumes, although their threads won’t score them points with stern judge Simon Cowell.

Warwick laughs, “Simon hates when people audition in costume. He thinks they’re stupid.”

Although many Idol wannabes are savvy when it comes to working the camera, not just anyone gets past Warwick.

He explains, “I shy away from people who really don’t seem genuine. If they come in just to act stupid, I don’t like that. We send those ones packing right away.”

Still, Warwick admits that without some of the disastrous, talentless auditions, Idol would be downright boring.

The eighth season of American Idol premieres tonight (Jan. 13) on FOX.
