Nigel Lythgoe Produces Dancing Olympics

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The traditional Olympics are so last season, the Olympics of dance is now taking over the tube.

That’s the premise behind Nigel Lythgoe’s latest TV venture, Superstars Of Dance, where dance groups from different countries like Ireland, Russia, China, Argentina, and the U.S. compete for the gold.

Each country is ranked by judges, and their scores are tallied throughout the competition, just like the Olympics.

They compete for different bronze, silver, and gold medals each time they hit the dance floor, and the intensity while they await their scores is just like the Summer or Winter Games.

Lythgoe explains, “The camera follows them back stage and catches their reactions as they get their marks. Their little faces are so anxious like, ‘What are they gonna say?’ just like an Olympic athlete.”

The media mogul thinks he’s really onto something and claims the global show has the potential to be as successful and beloved as American Idol.

Superstars Of Dance premieres Sunday (Jan. 4) on NBC.
