‘TRL’ Host Trades Mic For Drums

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – MTV VJ Damien Fahey likes the idea of hiding behind a drum kit.

When he’s not busy hosting Total Request Live on MTV, Fahey plays drums in a band called The Classic Futures, and likes jamming on his kit in the background, since he’s always front and center on TV.

He says drumming is one of his “greatest thrills in life,” and his job on TRL has allowed him to meet amazing kit masters, including former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, who once gave Fahey a lesson live on TRL.

Fahey is using his ear for music to host a talent search called StarLaunch with Cosmopolitan magazine, looking for the next female music star.

Aspiring stars can upload videos of themselves singing on YouTube now through October 6. The public will decide on the winners, who’ll open a show for Natasha Bedingfield and Solange Knowles.

Fahey hopes someone with talent and looks a la Gwen Stefani wins the contest, and he’ll back up anyone who needs a beat.

He says, “If they need help with percussions, I’ll get in there and drum!”
