Instead of clicking away on old typewriters, Jeremy Mayer uses them to create life-size sculptures of robot-looking humans, and is slated to premiere his entire collection in the summer of 2009.
Mayer says his femme-bots are often inspired by the women in his life, like his mom and girlfriend, and become like good friends to him.
He explains, I definitely start to treat them like people and have long conversations with them. Ill tell them Wow, look at you or You f■■ker when I stab myself on them.
Hes even taken to naming his creations, mainly to save them from a stupid moniker.
Mayer says, The people who have bought them usually make up a name, like Woody. Ive gotten in the habit of naming them myself so someone doesnt name it something I hate, like Jill.
