California Surfing Has Gone To The Dogs

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Surfing is going to the dogs this Saturday (Jun. 28) in Imperial Beach, California – literally.

The beach town is having its third annual surfing competition that’s strictly for canine competitors.

Organizer Anne Stephany says more than 60 dogs of all sizes will try their paws at riding the waves while judges score them on confidence, length of their ride, and their ability to “grip it and rip it.”

Stephany insists that your pooch doesn’t have to be a pro to take home the gold.

Last year, a shitzu mix named Toby grabbed the title right out from under the other doggies’ noses.

She explains, “Toby was just walking by the competition when his owner decided to enter him. He had never surfed a day in his life and he just took it all!"

This year, the three winning surfer pups won’t just receive a special plaque and bragging rights, but also a posh one-night stay at Loews Coronado Bay Resort with special schnauzer room service.
