‘Days Of Our Lives’ Actors Get Crash Course In Autism

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Days of Our Lives actors James Reynolds and Renee Jones are learning the struggles of parenting an autistic child.

Starting June 24, Days will begin airing a new storyline that deals with autism.

Jones’ and Reynolds’ characters – married couple Lexie and Abe Carver – find out that their three-year-old son has autism and have to cope with the life-changing disability.

For Reynolds, autism is close to his heart.

He has three sets of close friends who are parents of autistic children and he’s aware of the difficulties that come with the disability.

Still, he was surprised by the overwhelming autism statistics, especially the fact that one in every 150 kids has autism.

Jones – who didn’t know much about autism before the soap’s storyline – has been studying the emotions that parents of autistic kids go through so she can do justice to the experience onscreen.

She’s been looking to autism advocate Jenny McCarthy for guidance, and is amazed with the determination of autism parents.

The autism storyline on Days of Our Lives will continue to run through the summer and fall.
