Hollywood Isn’t As Glamorous As You Think

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Not every Hollywood gig is glamorous.

In What I Really Want to Do On Set in Hollywood: A Guide to Real Jobs in the Film Industry (Lone Eagle) author Brian Dzyak details the often grueling, gritty life of the behind-the- scenes jobs on a Tinseltown set.

Dzyak – the cameraman for We Are Marshall, Wanted, and Evan Almighty among other films – says, “You work 20-hour days. You don’t have a life. People lose marriages and friends.”

Occasionally, working on a set can be glamorous – almost.

Dzyak’s work has taken him around the world, from Dubai to China, but he adds, “I also spent a night under a freeway bridge for The Fast and the Furious 4. That’s not glamorous.”

Although it’s possible to go from obscure to Oscar-worthy – director Tim Burton started out as a crewperson – Dzyak says most workers – from dolly grips to makeup artists – are passionate about their position, and don’t dream of big-screen stardom.

What I Really Want comes out May 27.
