Grilled Cheese Competition Is A No-Brainer

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Brains aren’t the key to making a good grilled cheese sandwich.

Pro and amateur chefs will be cooking up creative sandwiches at the 6th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational Competition on Saturday (Apr. 19) in Los Angeles.

The competition has seen strange takes on the classic, gooey sandwich, including one filled with cannolis, a grilled cheese wedding cake frosted with canned cheese, and one with head cheese, which is made from cow brains.

Event founder Tim Walker says, “The competition invites weirdness, but a lot of people didn’t appreciate the head cheese. We disqualified that person from the competition for life.”

Though making a grilled cheese sandwich is a no-brainer, Walker says there’s an art to it.

He explains, “A lot of people get the ratio wrong. One guy put a whole brick of Velveeta between two pieces of bread. Anyone can make a grilled cheese sandwich, and with practice they can be a champion.”
