Chris Roat is putting his foot down when it comes to wearing shoes, and as a member of the Society for Barefoot Living and owner of Barefoot Hikers of Pennsylvania, hes spreading the word on foot freedom.
Roat, who goes shoeless everywhere except for the occasional restaurant, says hes a barefooter because its more natural and comfortable, and wants to set the record straight on any foot misconceptions.
He says, The Society for Barefoot Living sent out letters to every health department, and they say there are no health codes against bare feet. I carry their letter with me to show anyone who tries to tell me otherwise.
Though Roat is fervently anti-shoe, he says his thick and leathery feet have almost become shoes in themselves, and protect him better than regular shoes.
He explains, I was shoveling snow with sandals on, but after five minutes my feet go hot, so I took them off.
