World’s Largest Ball Of Stamps Holds Its Ground

BOYS TOWN, Neb. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – An old tourist attraction in Boys Town, Nebraska, is sticking around by holding its ground.

The Girls And Boys Town Visitors Center is home to the World’s Largest Ball Of Stamps, a 600-pound, 32-inch, sticky sphere that’s made out of 4,655,000 old stamps.

The ball was stuck together layer by layer, from 1953 to 1955, and 53 years later, despite no new stamps added, it stills hold the Guinness Record as the World’s Largest Ball Of Stamps,

Visitors Center tour director Pat Phelps says the ball is still a huge tourist attraction, and often catches the eyes of avid stamp collectors who are curious about the postal wonder.

She explains, “Stamp collectors would love to see what’s in the middle of the ball. It probably contains really old, valuable stamps. But it’s impossible to find out because it’s completely sealed over and varnished. Nothing can really be peeled off.”

Visiting tourists can touch the massive ball, which sits on a pedestal, and take pictures with it, but there’s no need to stick more stamps on it.

Phelps adds, “We’re not adding any more stamps. It’s complete.”
