Clea Hantman an experienced dumpee has just written 30 Days to Getting Over the Dork You Used to Call Your Boyfriend (Delacorte Press), a heartbreak handbook for teen girls who have been dumped.
Hantman says the steps to getting through a breakup are much like the steps involved in grieving, and include denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
Throughout those phases Hantman suggests teens spend time reflecting and hanging out with their girlfriends, and realize theres life beyond their dorky ex boyfriend.
She says the biggest mistake girls make after breakups is blaming themselves, instead of understanding truly why the breakup happened in the first place.
To get over your ex, Hantman suggests writing down things about him that made your skin crawl, deleting his cell phone number and email, and having a good ol fashion spew session where you vent your frustrations to your gal pals.
But there are also some tempting things down-and-out dumpees must avoid doing at all costs.
Hantman says hanging out with his friends, walking by his classroom, driving by his house, checking his MySpace, and impulsively calling him are all no-nos and will only lead to more heartache.
