Salty Museum Shakes Things Up

GATLINBERG, Tenn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – There’s an odd museum in Gatlinberg, Tennessee, that’s really got things shakin’.

The Museum of Salt and Pepper Shakers has more than 20,000 fun and freaky shakers that come come in every shape and size possible.

Owner Andrea Ludden says, “Anything and everything has been made into shakers. There’s a lot of amazing creativity behind them, and no one can ever find a favorite.”

The museum is a family business that started when Ludden’s mother started collecting shakers at home. Since then, the family has moved five times to bigger facilities to hold the ever-growing crazy collection.

And while the family travels to antique shops all over the United States searching for strange shakers, Ludden says beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

She says, “Some people search for rare, expensive shakers while others collect cow ones because their kitchen is decorated with cows. It’s a personal thing that creates or brings back memories.”
