Strange Stories At D.B. Cooper Party

AERIAL, Wash. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A tiny town in Washington will be swapping some strange stories about a notorious flying felon this Saturday (Nov. 24).

In 1971, D.B. Cooper hijacked a jet and is believed to have parachuted into the Washington wilderness, disappearing with $200,000.

Every year since 1974, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the D.B. Cooper Party has filled the tiny town of Aerial, Washington, with strange stories of Cooper’s money-stealing mission.

The party, which draws about 200 people to Aerial – the former search party headquarters – features music, raffles, and a look-alike contest, but it’s the story sharing that gets people talking.

Party spokesperson Dona Elliott says, “Nobody can be sure what happened, not even the F.B.I. A lot of people have their story, but they’re afraid to get up in front of people and tell it.”

And while Elliott says her favorite tale is one woman’s belief that Cooper bailed out and was taken in by Ms. Sasquatch, she’s skeptical, saying, “I think Cooper had it all figured out. He would’ve been awful stupid to bail out in November into the cold water.”
