List Of Top TV Icons Gets Families Fighting

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Choosing TV’s top icons is causing some funny family fighting.

The 50 Greatest TV Icons airs this Friday (Nov. 16) on TV Land, and executive producer Paul Barrosse says that while viewers will be happy with the selections, which include Jerry Seinfeld, Oprah Winfrey, and Regis Philbin, his own family got into a small-screen squabble over one candidate.

Barrosse says, “My wife would yell at me if I brought up Calista Flockhart, but my 16-year-old daughter would say, ‘She was Ally McBeal!’ For my daughter, she’s the new Mary Tyler Moore.”

And while TV’s golden age is represented by Lucille Ball, Jackie Gleason, and many more 50s faves, the TV tally isn’t stuck in the past.

Familiar faces like Heather Locklear, Jimmy Smits, and even Simon Cowell made the cut, but Barrosse says the judges hesitated with the rest of the American Idol crew.

Ryan Seacrest was left off the list, but Barrosse says, “We didn’t want to speculate. Who knows if he isn’t his generation’s Regis Philbin?”

The Icons list will also be featured in Entertainment Weekly on November 16.
