Legendary Drummer Hits Medicinal Groove

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – For drummer Mickey Hart, playing with the Grateful Dead was just the beginning of a life in music.

Hart kept time for the iconic jam-band throughout their career, and now, with his new band, Global Drum Project, he’s hitting the road again, and – like his old band – waking people up.

Hart says, “It’s the same as the Grateful Dead – we explore new places and try to create a groove, feeling, and energy.”

And while he grooves on stage, creating music and exploring new territories, Hart hopes his beats can benefit more than just the crowd.

Hart has long been involved with exploring the healing, medicinal effects of rhythm on people with neurological afflictions like Alzheimer’s disease.

As Hart says, “That’s the new frontier of music. Music is healing, music is medicine.”

Global Drum Project kicks off their tour September 20 in Tucson, Arizona.
