Playing A Wizard Is A Piece Of Cake For Child Actor

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When it comes to playing a wizard, one child actor has some tricks up his sleeves.

Twelve year-old Jake Austin – best known as the voice of Diego on Go, Diego! Go! – plays the youngest wizard in the new Disney Channel show Wizards Of Waverly Place, and says he was excited to join the cast because he was already a magician.

Says Austin: “Backstage, I do real magic. I know how to do coin tricks and card tricks, so it was a big coincidence when this show came along.”

Austin also schooled costars Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who play his siblings, when it came to doing tricks, and has been teaching them magic during their off-time on the set.

Although he’s a master at slight-of-hand tricks, Austin admits he’s a little rusty on everything else, ever since he went away to New Zealand to film a movie and didn’t have any time to practice new tricks.

As he puts it, “I lost the touch, but I’m working on getting it back.”

Wizards Of Waverly Place premieres this fall on the Disney Channel.
