Parents Full Of Built-In Excuses

BROOKLYN, New York (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you’re looking for some good excuses, you should become a parent.

That’s according to professional excuse expert Addie Johnson, who makes a list of cop-outs in her book The Little Book Of Big Excuses (Conari Press).

She says parents – especially those with young children – are the folks who have the best excuses for opting out of boring parties and family gatherings, everything from “Sorry. I have to take the kid to the doctor,” to “Darn. I can’t make it because I can’t find a babysitter.”

Says Johnson: “Parents really hit the million dollar jackpot. No one’s going to question them if they say their kid is sick. Who knows? They could be at home just hanging out watching TV.”

But while Mom and Dad have great excuses for getting out of things with other people, Johnson says husbands have a harder time getting out of things involving their wives.

Though that doesn’t stop them from trying.

She explains: “Guys have this way of giving backhanded compliments to try to get their way. I’ll ask my husband to change the baby’s diaper and he’ll say, ‘But honey you’re SO good at it.’ I would rather be complimented on something other than my diaper changing skills, so he usually ends up doing it.”
