Transgenders Find Support Group On ‘All My Children’

WATERVILLE, Maine (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Transgenders are getting a lot of support from All My Children.

On the episode airing Friday (Mar. 9), transgender author Jenny Boylan plays a support group counselor helping Jeffrey Carlson’s character through his transformation to a woman.

Boylan admits the role wasn’t too much of a stretch – mainly because producers wanted her to play herself.

She explains: “They had a group of us sit in a circle and just talk about our experiences. It’s the longest continuous scene in daytime television, and we all just got to explain who we are and that we aren’t freaks.”

It was Boylan’s job to facilitate the group, and says some members were opening up about their experience for the first time.

Says Boylan: “If it was any other group – gay guys, lesbians, anyone – no one would care, but because we’re transgender this is a historical event.”

Boylan enjoyed her stint on the set, but her lips are sealed as to whether she becomes a series regular.
