Thats the valuable lesson that University of Massachusetts, Amherst freshman Ali Schmidt learned when she was part of a documentary back in high school.
The experience required the 120-pound Schmidt to wear a suit that added 130 extra pounds to her frame.
It also added a lot of emotions. She says she only lasted a day as a ballooning beauty because she couldnt handle peoples reactions.
Says Schmidt: I just couldnt do it I couldnt believe how people treated me.
She says the negative reaction has prompted her to stay in shape, especially at a really athletic school like Amherst.
Schmidt says she tries to eat right and go to the gym as much as possible, but says she doesnt let weight completely control her happiness.
Now Schmidts experience is the subject of a new movie called To Be Fat Like Me, which debuts Monday (Jan. 8) on Lifetime.
