Donning Fat Suit Helps Keep Freshmen 15 At Bay

AMHERST, Mass. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One college student has found a way to keep the freshmen 15 at bay – don a fat suit for a day.

That’s the valuable lesson that University of Massachusetts, Amherst freshman Ali Schmidt learned when she was part of a documentary back in high school.

The experience required the 120-pound Schmidt to wear a suit that added 130 extra pounds to her frame.

It also added a lot of emotions. She says she only lasted a day as a ballooning beauty because she couldn’t handle people’s reactions.

Says Schmidt: “I just couldn’t do it – I couldn’t believe how people treated me.”

She says the negative reaction has prompted her to stay in shape, especially at “a really athletic school like Amherst.”

Schmidt says she tries to eat right and go to the gym as much as possible, but says she doesn’t let weight completely control her happiness.

Now Schmidt’s experience is the subject of a new movie called To Be Fat Like Me, which debuts Monday (Jan. 8) on Lifetime.
