Being Santa Is Claus For Joy

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Being Santa Claus for a living means a lot of long hours this time of year, but the job is still Claus for celebration.

That’s what Pro Football Hall of Fame announcer Charlie Jones discovered when he interviewed 50 different Santas for a new book, Christmas Memories Of Mr. And Mrs. Santa Claus (Seven Locks Press).

As Jones puts it, “It’s like a calling. Many of the Santas told me, ‘When you put on the red suit, you don’t play Santa, you BECOME Santa.”’

That means sometimes trusting the spirit of St. Nick, even when a child is asking for a present that seems impossible to grant.

For instance, one Santa remembers a boy asking him to bring his dad home from Iraq. Although the Santa doubted he had that much pull at the Pentagon, he agreed.

Naturally, he was surprised when, weeks later, the dad was home, albeit with a missing right arm.

But Santa surprises come in all varieties, such as the kid who wanted to know, “Does Santa have a penis?”
