Lounge Singer Turns Beyonce, Vanilla Ice Tunes Into Christmas Standards

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You may not think of Beyonce Knowles’ hit song “Naughty Girl” as a Christmas classic, but, then again, you’re not Richard Cheese.

He’s a Los Angeles-based lounge singer who has just released Silent Nightclub, a holiday CD that turns standard pop tunes into holiday standards.

For instance, Cheese transforms “Naughty Girl” into a song that he claims “Santa would listen to while filling out his naughty and nice list.”

Other tunes that are turned into holiday hits include “Like A Virgin,” “Ice Ice Baby,” and the Dead Kennedy’s “Holiday In Cambodia.”

Cheese says the rationale behind the seasonal CD is simple: “There are so many albums featuring the old songs like ‘Winter Wonderland,’ that I thought it would be nice to do some of the more recent songs like ‘Personal Jesus’ by Depeche Mode.”

But while the album is definitely a modern approach to Christmas music, Cheese doesn’t shy away from old school songs. For instance, he remakes “Jingle Bells,” but focuses specifically on the version by the Barking Dogs because, he points out, “They put the ‘Fido’ in ‘fidelity.”’
