Giant Roadside Artichoke Makes Many Hearts Happy

CASTROVILLE, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Artichokes may be the understated veggies of the garden, but in Castroville, California, they are an honored legume and even considered a delicacy.

Castroville loves its artichokes so much that there’s even a giant 19-foot artichoke that attracts thousands of people to the tiny town.

But the awesome artichoke isn’t the only thing to stop in for. Adjacent to the roadside vegetable there’s a unique place to get some grub called, “Erica’s Giant Artichoke Restaurant.”

Restaurant owner, Jose Salazar, says the restaurant stays busy with tourists and locals stopping in for some appropriately themed artichoke dishes.

Says Salazar: “We have artichoke soup, bread, and dips. People love the deep fried artichoke hearts, and the traditional steamed artichokes are always a favorite.”

Salazar’s restaurant even serves up the leafy veggie in a special “artichoke milkshake” which is mixed with strawberries and vanilla ice cream.

In Salazar’s words, “The milkshake is good. It’s sweet, with a little taste of artichoke.”
