The punker-turned-profiteer goes by the name of Mugger, and his story is one of many featured in a new documentary, American Hardcore: The History of American Punk Rock, 1980- 1986.
The filmss director, Paul Rachman, says Mugger took the modest sum he earned from selling his part of the indie record label SST and invested it in the high-tech stock market.
As Rachman puts it: This was before anyone thought that way and he sold it all BEFORE the dotcom bust; so hes gone from dirt-poor punker sleeping on the floor of a recording space to a millionaire.
Rachman says, however, that for every rags-to-riches tale told in his film, there is one of an ex-punker who to this day is still sleeping on someones couch.
American Hardcore, which also features interviews with members of Social Distortion, Black Flag, Bad Religion and Circle Jerks, among others, is now playing in select cities.
