Punk Rock Pays Off For Ex-Roadie In New Documentary

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Punk rock isn’t supposed to make people rich, but one ex-roadie for punk legends Black Flag has turned it into millions.

The punker-turned-profiteer goes by the name of Mugger, and his story is one of many featured in a new documentary, American Hardcore: The History of American Punk Rock, 1980- 1986.

The films’s director, Paul Rachman, says Mugger took the modest sum he earned from selling his part of the indie record label SST and invested it in the high-tech stock market.

As Rachman puts it: “This was before anyone thought that way – and he sold it all BEFORE the dotcom bust; so he’s gone from dirt-poor punker sleeping on the floor of a recording space to a millionaire.”

Rachman says, however, that for every rags-to-riches tale told in his film, there is one of an ex-punker “who to this day is still sleeping on someone’s couch.”

American Hardcore, which also features interviews with members of Social Distortion, Black Flag, Bad Religion and Circle Jerks, among others, is now playing in select cities.
