‘Guiding Light’ Celebrates 15,000th Episode

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Looks like 15,000 is a lucky number for the cast and crew of the CBS soap opera Guiding Light.

Tomorrow (Sept. 7) marks the show’s 15,000th episode since it first aired on TV in June of 1952.

Before that, it was a popular radio serial, with plots revolving around a kindly minister tending to his flock of parishioners instead of lusty bedroom antics.

In the early days of TV, things were a little less high-end than they are now. The actors and actresses wore their own clothes and did their own hair before each broadcast.

Since then, soap opera historians estimate that there have been more than 132 marriages – and at least 10 characters have come back from the dead.

In addition, the roles of “Mike Bauer,” and “Hope Bauer Spaulding” have been played by six different actors.

Finally, some of the big name actors who got their break from being on Guiding Light include Kevin Bacon, Cicely Tyson, Melina Kanakaredes and Sherry Stringfield.
