Football Thanksgiving More Important Than Labor Day

STERLING, Va. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You may be focused on the upcoming Labor Day holiday but for a couple in Sterling, Virginia, the real holiday is September 10.

That’s the day the NFL season officially kicks off and that’s when Laura and Donald Poindexter celebrate a holiday they call “Football Thanksgiving.”

This year marks the eighth year the couple has celebrated “Football Thanksgiving,” and they suggest football lovers from all over the U.S. join in by chowing down on a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings.

The Poindexters keep the spirit of the holiday by having seven different TVs each broadcasting a different NFL game while wearing clothes featuring the logos of their favorite team.

Although “Football Thanksgiving” has its biggest shindig at the Poindexter household, Donald Poindexter says it’s actually a universal holiday.

As he puts it, “Not every NFL fan knows they’re celebrating ‘Football Thanksgiving’ – but they are.”
