‘We Belong’ Composers Get Noted In ‘Talladega Nights’

VALENCIA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Will Ferrell is scoring big with Talladega Nights and composers Eric Lowen and Dan Navarro are among those reaping the benefits.

Lowen and Navarro co-wrote the 1984 Pat Benatar hit, “We Belong,” which is used at a climactic point of the comedy – and Lowen was pleased and surprised by its inclusion.

In his words, “Nobody connected with the movie told us it was being used. We found out from fans on our website.”

No matter. The two songwriters were happy to be included, especially Lowen, who says his five kids were impressed to hear Dad’s song in the film.

But while Lowen and Navarro had serious intentions for “We Belong,” they don’t mind the tune being played for laughs.

As Lowen puts it, “I enjoy the comedic uses of the song. Will Ferrell actually used the song a few years ago in a Saturday Night Live show with Salma Hayak, where all the male cast members pretended to be members of a Pat Benatar cover band.”

Lowen and Navarro are happy with the song’s inclusion in Talladega Nights but they admit it won’t make them rich.

In Lowen’s words, “‘We Belong’ is also being used in a Sheraton ad and, believe it or not, we make more money from that.”
