Telephone Collector’s Hobby Really Rings His Bell

SAN MARCOS, Ca. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One California man has really found his calling – collecting antique telephones.

Dan Golden, a Bell Telephone System Historian and avid phone collector, has been collecting old phones since 1962 and currently owns over 2000 phones, with 500 of them actively on display.

His favorite phone is a 4-foot tall Bell system phone, which was made in 1891 out of clear glass to show exactly how the telephone works as they dialed.

Golden adds, “I also have some high-quality character phones from the 1980s featuring Woody Woodpecker and Wonder Woman.”

He says his love for phone-philia began when he was a young boy on the verge of puberty and first started talking to girls on the phone.

However, he admits: “I was able to sound much cooler over the phone than in person.”

Golden plans to share his phone fetish with the public by the end of the year when he opens up an antique store in Oceanside, California, where he will offer displays and information on the history of the telephone.
