Tunstalls tune, Black Horse And The Cherry Tree, is currently riding up the charts thanks to her own recording as well as that of American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, who performed it on two occasions on the hit show.
Not bad, considering the song was almost titled Black Horse And The Olive Tree.
Tunstall was inspired to write the ditty when she was 17 and on vacation in Greece.
It was there she actually saw a black horse bucking in a stunted forest of olive trees and was inspired to write the song.
Tunstall eventually changed the tree in the title from olive to cherry and, as a result, is now on the way to a fruitful career.
Although some English teachers are using the song to explain allegories and mythology, Tunstall says that wasnt her intent because, in her words, very few people who write from the heart think that way.
